This pastel portrait of a tabby cat is one I couldn’t really resist trying since my own cat at the time (the Scruff Monkey behind the name of the company) was also a tabby. The original of this painting was one of the learning pieces from a Colin Bradley Beginner kit and used just six pastel pencils to create the painting. I decided to revisit it with a little more experience later on and was happy with the improvement, although by then I was beginning to experiment with paper other than the Fabriano Ingres. This is the second version. Sadly we lost the Scruff Monkey (her actual name was Molly) about 18 months later at the age of 18. I’ll have to do a painting of the real Scruff Monkey I think. I certainly have enough reference photographs of her.
