This pastel painting of Hambleden Mill is probably my favourite of the Colin Bradley beginner kits that I learned from and again uses only six pastel pencil colours to achieve the result. I actually did this again a couple of years later, which showed how much I’d improved over that time; so much so that the second version was sold – to someone who actually lived in Hambleden Mill at the time! The third version, as with Cottage on a Cliff, was one I returned to when I was trying to get back into my art again in 2021. I needed to start with some familiar paintings just to see whether I could still do them after a long time away. It also gave me the chance to try out some new pastel paper and different pastel pencils on a familiar painting. This is the first version.
