Mountain Storm is a pastel painting that came about as a result of a previous work. Not satisfied with the mountains I had included in that earlier painting, I decided to create a painting based completely around a mountain landscape.
The other part of the challenge to myself was to try to create an atmospheric piece only in black and white (and grey) pastel, rather than a drawing with graphite pencil. It was a fun exercise and I was pretty happy with the result. I was going to change the title to Thunder in the Mountains (as I’ve always liked Toyah), but I’d had prints of this done with the original name so Mountain Storm it shall remain.
